  • Special exhibition: “MMK 1991–2011. 20 Years of Presence”
  • The Blue Room offers a glimpse of the future of the MainTor area
  • First edition of “The Riverside” published

Frankfurt-based real estate investment company DIC is main sponsor of the anniversary exhibition “MMK 1991-2011. 20 Jahre Gegenwart” (“MMK 1991–2011. 20 Years of Presence”), presented by Frankfurt’s MMK Museum of Modern Art at three sites in the city between 19 June and 9 October 2011. For this purpose it is making one of the existing buildings that are scheduled for demolition on the MainTor site (Untermainkai) available to the museum. Extending over seven floors and covering around 4,000 sqm, the MainTor portion of the exhibition will present a cross-section of contemporary art.

Also integrated into the MainTor exhibition space on Untermainkai is the Blue Room. This visitors’ centre designed by DIC reflects the proximity of the River Main in its colour scheme and offers an insight into the future development of the area in the form of a three-dimensional model and large-format views. Ulrich Höller, CEO: “The MMK exhibition represents a link between Frankfurt’s past and its future. Our Blue Room conveys an initial impression of this future.”

The section of the exhibition being held on the MainTor site includes major works by Ai Weiwei/Serge Spitzer, Thomas Bayrle, Christian Boltanski, Tobias Rehberger, Stephan Balkenhol, Nam June Paik, Thomas Demand, Andreas Slominski and Hanne Darboven as well as showcasing a younger generation of contemporary artists as represented by Cyprien Gaillard, Tue Greenfort, Tomas Saraceno and Simon Dybbroe Møller. This canon, which extends in an associative sequence over 4,000 sqm, is supplemented by works by artists such as Michel Majerus, Wilhelm Sasnal and Holger Bunk that have never before been shown at the MMK.

DIC has now published the first issue of “The Riverside” magazine, containing extensive information and illustrations detailing the area’s past, the current MMK anniversary exhibition and the MainTor project plans. Media representatives can order the magazine (in either print or PDF form) using the media contact details given below.

With the “MainTor” project, the DIC Group is redesigning the area between Untermainkai and Weißfrauenstraße in Frankfurt. The previously closed site will not only be redeveloped but will also become a public space once more, to be permanently incorporated into the surrounding quarter with paths and roads. The Riverside Financial District - the MainTor quarter will enhance the architecture alongside the Main in Frankfurt’s banking quarter and will round off the urban development. Parallel to the exhibition, in late summer DIC will start to demolish the building on the front section of the MainTor site as planned.
