DIC: Anniversary exhibition by the Museum für Moderne Kunst on the MainTor site

Frankfurt, 03.03.2011

MMK Sonderausstellung

From 19 June to 9 October 2011, the Frankfurt-based real estate investment company will show parts of the major exhibition to mark the 20th birthday of the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt am Main entitled “MMK 1991-2011. 20 Jahre Gegenwart” (“MMK 1991-2011. 20 years of the contemporary”) in one of the existing buildings on the future MainTor site (entrance: Untermainkai 3), which will soon be demolished. DIC will make some 4,000 sqm of space available for the exhibition and, as one of the principal sponsors, will assume responsibility for the infrastructure measures required for this purpose. To celebrate its 20th birthday, the MMK will show its entire collection, numbering over 4,000 exhibits, for the first time. Some 1,000 exhibits will be displayed at the MainTor site.

Ulrich Höller, CEO of DIC: “We are very happy to provide a home for the works of art owned by Frankfurt's renowned MMK for just over three months; it gives us great pleasure to support the project, which may be because our business, in which artists such as architects and designers play a great part, has many interesting similarities with art: art and buildings are long-lasting witnesses to history, which have a great deal to tell posterity.”

The exhibition also marks an exciting break between the past and the future of this quarter. The imminent redevelopment of the MainTor site will reinstate the historical, direct links between Frankfurt’s city centre and the banks of the Main, with Frankfurt’s banking quarter also regaining its riverside location.

With the “MainTor” project, the DIC Group is redesigning the area between Untermainkai and Weißfrauenstraße in Frankfurt. The previously closed site will not only be redeveloped but will also become a public space once more, to be permanently incorporated into the surrounding quarter with paths and roads. The Riverside Financial District – with the MainTor ensemble will enhance the architecture alongside the Main in Frankfurt’s banking quarter and will round off the urban development. Parallel to the exhibition, DIC will start to demolish the building on the front section of the MainTor site as planned in late summer.
